Public Fire and Life Safety Education

The most effective way to prevent the tragedy of fires and other injuries is to educate the public on their causes and to introduce strategies in dealing with these emergencies.

The Charlotte Fire Department believes prevention through education is the key to reducing fires and injuries to the citizens of Charlotte. Through an aggressive and comprehensive fire and life safety educational program we accomplish this goal.

Currently, there are five full-time public fire and life safety educators assigned to the Fire Investigation Task Force.  The educators have several key roles:
  • Plan and conduct community fire and life safety education programs.
  • Plan and conduct special events in fire and arson prevention.
  • Develop fire related educational materials.
  • Coordinate public education programs for operations personnel by developing, monitoring, and evaluating presentations.
  • Work closely with the Charlotte Fire Department Public information Officer to further educate the public.

Charlotte Fire Department Fire and Life Safety Educators educate the public on both fire related issues and injury prevention issues. Juvenile Firesetters (Fire Busters) is among the many fire and injury prevention programs that the Fire & Life Safety Educators concentrate their efforts.

Fire & Life Safety Educators also serve as liaisons for the Fire Department in the following organizations:

Charlotte Chapter of the Firefighters' Burned Children Fund Inc.
