Engine Companies
The Charlotte Fire Department operates 38 engine companies. Every engine company is a triple combination class A pumper. This means that the truck carries water, hose, and a fire pump for extingushing fires. In addition to firefighting equipment, all engines have life saving EMS equipment, including defibrillators for cardiac arrest patients. All engines carry special monitors to detect Carbon Monoxide.

All pumpers in Charlotte have these common features:

• 4-door enclosed cabs for firefighter safety
• Waterous 1500 GPM pumps
• 500 gallon water tanks
• 30 gallon class B foam tanks
• Feecon foam systems
• 1-3/4" and 2-1/2" attack lines
• 5" supply line

Several makes and models of pumpers are in service in Charlotte. Below are descriptions of each model and special features of some apparatus.

• 19 of these are in service in Charlotte

  • Can produce 600 GPM at 600 PSI

  • 750 gallon water tanks
