Purpose:

To establish a policy for the use of readily combustible landscaping materials in close proximity to exits and access thereto at multi-family type occupancies.

Policy:

• Readily combustible landscaping material shall include, but is not limited to pine needles, hay, straw, and any other material that, when ignited, will sustain combustion and freely burn without a continued external heat source.
• Readily combustible landscaping materials shall be prohibited within 3 feet of any exit or access to exits in multi-family type occupancies.
• In areas where the use of a bridge or other suspended walkway is part of an exit, readily combustible landscaping materials shall be prohibited directly beneath and up to 3 feet from each side of the walkway.
• Readily combustible landscaping materials shall be prohibited within 3 feet of any electrical meter box or any other electrical service component.
