Tank Removal and Safeguarding Procedures

The removal and safeguarding of above and below ground tanks create a special and unique hazard. The Careless and unapproved practices of tank purging and cleaning can result in explosions and the rupturing of tanks resulting from residual flammable and combustible vapors still present inside the tank.  This not only places the workers assigned to the job at risk, but also the public.

The issuance of a Fire Department permit for this type operation is to ensure that all provisions of the North Carolina Fire Code are adhered to related to the removal of the product, the proper purging of residual vapors, and the process of the actual lifting and removing of the tanks.
