Purpose:
To establish a set of guidelines and procedures for the issuance of indoor pyrotechnic displays.
Policy:
- Permits for indoor pyrotechnic displays may either be issued at the Fire Prevention Bureau office or at the site. If issued at the site, the “On Site Permit” form may be utilized at the time a demo shot(s) is witnessed. For pyrotechnic displays that are on going and do not vary (i.e. continued sporting events. etc.), a witnessed demo need only be conducted at the first event unless warranted by the Fire Inspector.
- The person or organization performing the display shall provide proof of liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.00 minimum and that the insurance is, or will be in effect at the time of the display. Note: The minimum amount indicated may vary depending on location of the display.
- A site plan shall be provided and shall include a diagram of the area where the display will take place from, the location and type of pyrotechnic devices to be used and their proximity to and distance from surrounding audience.
- The organization applying for the permit shall also provide the following information:
- The name of the company applying for and performing the display.
- The name and address of the facility the display is taking place in.
- The date of the display.
- A resume’ or other documentation that includes the name, address and age of the person performing the display, past experience, and any special licenses that he or she may hold.
- The manner and place of storage of pyrotechnic materials.
- The quantity and types of pyrotechnic devices utilized.
- The Fire Inspector shall ensure that all applicable sections of Chapter 33 of the North Carolina Fire Code and NFPA 1123, 1124 and 1126 are being followed.
