The Charlotte Fire Department enforces sections 3504.4.1 and 3502.4.2 of Volume V of the N. C. State Building Code, which state:

• 3502.4.1 Vehicles powered by Class I flammable liquids, Class II combustible liquids, or compress flammable gases shall not be stored within the living space of residential use buildings and shall be separated from other occupancy use as required in the building code.
• 3502.4.2 Vehicles shall not be stored or garaged so as to obstruct or endanger the egress from any occupancy. This includes beneath stairs, steps, and breezeways.

These sections include, but are not limited to motorcycles, mopeds, jet skis, lawn mowers, etc.
