The Charlotte Firefighters Association (CFFA) Local 660 of Charlotte has donated a new fire safety smoke house to the Charlotte Fire Department. A special ceremony was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 18 at the CFFA hall, located at 4419 Monroe Road.
Mike Spath, president of the Local 660 and other members of the CFFA will be on hand to make the donation. A representative from the Charlotte Fire Department will receive the keys to the new smoke house. Mayor Pro Tem, Patrick Cannon will also participate in the celebration.
The fire safety smoke house is a tool used to teach children and their families how to escape from fire. The mobile trailer is a replica of a two-story home. Firefighters conduct a fire safety lesson with the children then take them into the trailer, reslease non-hazardous smoke, and observe and assist as the children "escape." The safety trailer is valued at approximately $25,000 and was paid for by funds donated to the CFFA.
The CFFA is a group of professional fire fighters who work for Charlotte Fire Department. It is a branch of the International Association of Fire fighters and has been in existence for 32 years. They have donated a variety of equipment to the Charlotte Fire Department in an effort to make the community a safer place.
