Voice over Internet Protocal (VoIP) is a new wave of phone service that is used with your broadband internet connection, instead of conventional phone lines (analog). Most of your phone companies offer VoIP, however they refer to it as digital phone service. When deciding whether or not to switch your phone service to digital, ask the phone company the following:
1. Will I have access to emergency services by calling 9-1-1
2. Will the phone service work if the power is out
3. And if you are unable to stay on the phone and talk with a Telecommunicator, will 9-1-1 know your location and send help?
Many phone companies will have information on their digital service and accessing 9-1-1.
