Training Division (Teaching More Than Just the Basics)



Training Division Overview

The training division is charged with the responsibility of providing all initial recruit training and certification, Fire, Rescue and EMS continuing education training and recertification, specialty training such as NC State USAR collapse rescue training, Dive Rescue training, Confined Space training, Haz-Mat, Swiftwater rescue, Rescue technician, Emergency vehicle driving, Driver operator training, Incident Command training and Emergency Medical Technician –Defibrillation training.

The Training Division serves a diverse workforce of over 1000 members including all ranks and divisions. The City of Charlotte is a rapidly growing City, and the Charlotte Fire Department does what is necessary to keep up with the diverse and ever changing emergency situations that may arise.

Training Disciplines

Training Division currently has 7 uniform members, an EMS Coordinator, a videographer and an Administrative Officer. Each training officer is responsible for specific assigned training disciplines. The Charlotte Fire Department Training Division operates in partnership with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), and the City training team.  (Training Division staff contacts)

We offer training of all types, including hands-on, classroom based, E-Training through the CFDWEB online, video conferencing, in-station company based training, seminar based training, and closed circuit Charlotte Fire Department cable television training channel. The Charlotte Fire Department is fortunate to have a staff of Training Officers and in addition 150 plus certified OSFM State Certified Instructors encompassing all major disciplines.
