State and Federal Grants

In fiscal 2006, 14% of Mecklenburg County revenues came from competitive and non-competitive State and federal grants ($161.7 million).  The County's share of revenues from intergovernmental sources declined slightly from prior years, due to reductions in State and federal government funding programs, primarily in Health and Human Services. These funds supported more than 200 service programs intended to meet the needs of county residents while minimizing local costs.

The Mecklenburg County Finance Department offers grant research and grant writing assistance.  Dr. Sharon Kugelmass, instrumental in raising a significant portion of these revenues, is available to assist you in developing outside funding opportunities.

View our presentation for a basic understanding of the art of writing a winning grant proposal.

The County makes an online grants locator database available at no cost to you or your department. You may gain access to the system by signing the User Agreement and returning it to the Finance Department. You will be contacted to activate your account and receive online system training, if desired.

One Less Step for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Grant Applicants

Mecklenburg County has completed a federal Assurance of Compliance form, indicating compliance with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Civil Rights Act legislation and related anti-discrimination provisions.

If you apply for a federal DHHS grant in future, you do not need to repeat this process, but simply reference Mecklenburg County's compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and related requirements as of February 2007 and May 17, 2005.

To access the County's NEW federal on-line e-application process and instructions, please see County CCR Process.
