Financial Accomplishments

The City of Charlotte Finance Department has been recognized for its excellence many times over the last several years. We have received the Government Finance Officer's Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting for the past 20 years.

Finance - Risk Management participated in the successful opening of the new Charlotte Vehicle Operations Center, providing safety training for City drivers.
Finance implemented the SpeedPay automated payment system for utility bill payment online and over the telephone.

Finance - Revenue has implemented a bad debt recovery program initiative that has identified over $800,000 in recoverable revenue that has been referred to a collection agency.

City of Charlotte Finance and Wachovia worked together to implement a "Positive Pay" program for city checks. This program reduces the possiblity of fraud by allowing the bank to verify each check was actually written by the City before cashing it.
The City of Charlotte has been recognized for its excellent financial policies by Moody's Investors Service, Standard and Poor's and Fitch by achieving a Triple A credit rating.

Standard and Poor's upgraded the rating on the City's Stormwater Debt to Triple A in October 2006.
Finance employees donated over $11,000 to the 2006 United Way of Central Carolina campaign, continuing a long history of giving and community support. Total City giving exceeded $540,000 in 2006.
