Project Impact On September 28, 1998, the Charlotte City Council approved a joint resolution with Mecklenburg County to accept the Federal Emergency Management Association's invitation to join the Project Impact disaster resistance community initiative. Charlotte-Mecklenburg was one of only two communities in North Carolina and 50 nationwide that would participate in this program.
The purpose of Project Impact is to combine private sector and federal, state and local government efforts in disaster planning. The project emphasized community planning.
Among the initiatives were:
- Educational and training programs
- Identification of public and private resources for disaster response
- Development of partnerships with the private sector
- Review of local building codes
