Citizen Corps Coalition Kickoff

March 19, 2003

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, Mecklenburg Board of County Commission Chair Tom Cox, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (R-9) and Emergency Management Director Wayne Broome officially launched the local Citizen Corps Coalition on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 9 a.m. at the Charlotte Police & Fire Training Academy, 1770 Shopton Road.

The Coalition is a partnership among the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and The American Red Cross.  The Coalition initiatives include:

The Citizen Corps Coalition is a program designed to help citizens in Charlotte - Mecklenburg become better prepared for preventing and responding to crime, public health issues, terrorism, natural disasters and emergency scenarios of all kinds through a series of ongoing initiatives. 

While open to individuals, the Citizens Corps program seeks organized groups such as business and neighborhood associations to lead the way in preparing for a united response to preventing crime and unforeseen emergencies.
