What is the Business Corridor Liaison Program?
The Corridor Liaison Program is a plan that addresses the full range of issues affecting the health of the business corridors in the Communities Within A City area where jobs and shopping support adjacent residential neighborhoods. The corridors in the revitalization area represent some of the oldest and most heavily traveled areas in the city. They are areas that have potential for economic growth.
The program has two major components - physical improvements and business development. City staff works with business corridor stakeholders to develop comprehensive action plans which meet the unique needs and features of each area. These plans look at the issues affecting the health of business districts - from traffic and infrastructure to community safety, sanitation and job training. City liaisons coordinate City services to resolve business issues and to connect businesses to the community's business resources.
What Services Are Provided?
Supporting the needs of the businesses located along Charlotte's urban corridor is key to improving business success. To assist corridor businesses, the City provides:
- Loans for businesses that create new jobs. The City partners with other financial institutions in lending on projects that wouldn't happen without the City's assistance. See Equity Loan Program and the Business Investment Grant Program for information on these two programs
- Referrals for businesses that want assistance. City corridor liaisons can put businesses in touch with technical and financial resources in the community.
- Referral of job applicants who have completed City-sponsored training. See the Mayor's Youth Employment Program for information on job applicants.
The City also provides funding and supervision for infrastructure improvements made along the business corridors. Improvements include:
- Installing curbs, gutters and/or sidewalks
- Improving streets and street intersections
- Installing decorative street and pedestrian lighting
- Landscaping medians and public rights-of-way
