Permanency Planning

There are times when children cannot be maintained safely with their own families.  As a result, a petition for legal custody will be filed with the court.  Children then may be placed in a foster home, group home, treatment facility or other out of home placement.

The goal of this intervention is to provide a safe living arrangement for the child and work toward a permanent plan.  Plans for children range from reunification with family to adoption.

YFS Independent Living Program

The Independent Living Program is a service provided within Youth and Family Services for children who have or are about to age out of the foster care system. 

The Independent Living Program assists these young adults prepare for emancipation including life skills, finding housing, finding employment, and higher education.
