Nutrition Questions

Answers:

  1. Congregate Nutrition Meal Service provides a hot lunch in a group setting Monday through Friday, along with an array health and wellness programming and activities that allow for socialization. 

    Home Delivered Meal Service provides a weekly supply of frozen meals delivered once weekly  to the home of persons who are homebound and physically or mentally unable to obtain food or prepare meals, who have no responsible person who is able and willing to perform this service and who are unable to participate in congregate nutrition program because of physical of mental impairment.

    Supplemental Meal Service provides Ensure Plus liquid supplements (nutritionally fortified, commercially prepared liquid supplements) for three months to individuals who are at high nutritional risk due to loss of appetite, digestive problems, chewing or swallowing difficulties, experiencing involuntary weight loss and  recovering from illness or surgery.  A physician's approval is required.

  2. Anyone living in Mecklenburg County who is over the age of 60 years old may participate in the Senior Nutrition Program. Each service has specific criteria and may vary, but there is something available for every senior citizen. For more specific information, please call our offices at 336-2400.

  3. Meals are provided at no cost.  However, persons receiving Nutrition services are encouraged to make a contribution towards the cost of the service.  Meals are not denied to a person who is unable to make a contribution.

  4. How do I apply?

Persons wishing to apply for any Senior Nutrition service must call Centralized Intake at 704-336-4812.
