Community Resources Office (CRO), Beverly Hinson, CRO Administrator

The Community Resources Office and community volunteers continued to be successful in assisting those less unfortunate with various programs and services. During 2005, the CRO office generated $1,000,000 in private donations and volunteer hours to meet the needs of disadvantaged Mecklenburg County residents. Other results last fiscal year were remarkable:

• Distributed 2,846 Easter Baskets to children.
• Provided school supplies to 1,403 children for the 2006 school year.
• Sent 199 children to summer camp this past summer.
• Obtained 532 family sponsorships for Thanksgiving.
• During the 2005 Christmas season, we were astonished by the generosity of the residents of Mecklenburg County, organizations, churches, and businesses in helping those who are less fortunate.  688 community sponsors provided gifts and food to 1,059 families.
• Food pantry served 7,208 individuals.
• Sponsored 6 Blood Drives for at DSS and collected 583 pints of blood from County staff for the American Red Cross.
