DSS Vision: To Be The Best!
Community Resources Office: Who We Are
The Department of Social Services' Community Resources Office receives a lot of help for our clients, but the needs always seem to outweigh donations. Please remember us any time your family, your group, your church, or your company has time, money, or donations of good or services of almost any kind. We are here to serve as the connecting link between those willing to give and those who are in need by:
- Serving as an Administrator of Good Friends and other non-governmental funds.
- Being a "Matchmaker" for donors and recipients of seasonal projects such as:
- Easter Baskets
- Summer Camp Scholarships
- Back-to-School Drive
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
- Serving as the conduit for donated items
- Being an Information and Referral Source for human service workers.
- Partnering with Crisis Furniture Ministry by screening and processing requests.
-
Acting as an operator of a Loaves & Fishes Mini-Pantry - we provide customers in need with a 2-day supply of nutritious food. We are always in need of non-perishable items, especially peanut butter and juice. If your church or civic group is interested in sponsoring a food drive at anytime, please call 704-336-4810.
The Community Resources Office also coordinates the Department of Social Services Area Blood Drives for the American Red Cross five times a year. We also recruit, train, supervise and give recognition to the volunteers who assist our efforts in the annual blood drive.
To find out how you or your organization can assist others this Thanksgiving and Christmas season, and to learn more about the sponsorship deadlines for the Holiday Programs or other seasonal sponsorships, please visit our Volunteer Within The Community page. For more information, we encourage you to contact us by telephone at (704) 336-4809.
The Community Resources Office staff is committed to...
- WORKING with informed social workers from DSS and other human service agencies that work directly with clients.
- INVENTORY and acknowledge every donation and document how it was used and/or distributed.
- AVOIDING duplication by working with other crisis agencies; to combine our limited resources.
- ASKING enough questions to document actual need; to help families build self-sufficiency, not dependency
