DSS Vision: To Be The Best!
DSS Partnerships and Special Initiatives
The Department of Social Services is setting new standards of excellence through efficient use of taxpayer funds, community partnerships, and innovative approaches to service delivery for positive outcomes for our targeted populations.
Historically, institutions in Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte were accustomed to functioning independently of each other, providing human services, criminal justice system services, housing, municipal, educational and health care services. It was recognized that working independently of each was not cost effective and there was a multiplicity of services being delivered to the same population. Each fiscal year, these institutions often found themselves in competition for the same local, state and federal funding as demands for services and resources increased. Though state and federal money continued to dwindle, citizens expected local organizations to continue to provide a similar or an increased level of service without an increase in taxes. It became critical that the governmental institutions in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and other community organizations to work together to use limited resources to solve common problems.
We are committed to reevaluation and enhancement of those services which focus on prevention, early intervention, moving customers toward or maintaining self-sufficiency and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
Maximizing the impact of resources available to the private and public organizations - who have common customers living poverty - is the Department of Social Services' speciality.
By working together creatively - we create a synergy on behalf of their customers and stakeholders.
