Update on Pretrial Services Case Management Software Contract

After an extensive planning effort, staff from the Information Services and Technology Department (IST) and the Sheriff's Office issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a Pretrial Services Case Management Software earlier this year.

The Florida-based Automon Corporation was selected to provide the off-the-shelf software. A contract has been executed for the implementation of the software and two kiosks to be operational in approximately nine months.

The Automon software is a successful product that is running in nearly 100 sites, including very large jurisdictions such as Los Angeles County and the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Mecklenburg County's utilization of the software will move Pretrial Services from an outdated mainframe and paper-driven system into a flexible web-based application. This change will enable Pretrial Services to collect more comprehensive information on defendants and to disseminate this information across the criminal justice system more quickly and dependably. Time consuming tasks, such as tracking court activity and producing bond reports, also will be automated. In addition, the project includes two innovative electronic kiosk reporting stations where supervised defendants will be required to check-in regularly and be held accountable pending trial.

The contract cost is $346,325 and is being funded from a federal grant.
