Homeless Support Services serves persons living in Mecklenburg County who are homeless or at great risk of homelessness.
The following constitutes a homeless situation: (documentation required)
- Residing in a place not meant for human habitation, such as cars, parks, sidewalks, abandoned buildings, or on the street.
- Residing in an emergency shelter.

- Residing in transitional or supportive housing for homeless persons who originally came from the streets or emergency shelter.
- Being discharged within 7 days from an institution in which the individual has been a resident for more than 30 consecutive days with no subsequent residence identified and lacking the resources or support network to obtain housing.
- Being evicted within 7 days from a private dwelling unit with no subsequent residence identified and lacking the resources or support network to obtain housing.
- Being released from prison or jail with no subsequent residence identified and lacking the resources or support network to obtain housing.
- Fleeing a domestic violence housing situation with no subsequent residence identified and lacking the
resources or support network to obtain housing.
- Living in substandard or condemned housing.
