Utilities Discusses Development Concept for Proposed Wastewater Plant

Utilities has been working on plans for a proposed wastewater treatment plant in western Mecklenburg County for three years. This has involved a stakeholder process and a draft Environmental Impact Statement submitted to the state. Utilities explored different development proposals with Clariant, the property owner, and a new alternative has emerged with Forsite Development, Inc.

Utilities has had initial conversations with Forsite Development, Inc. regarding its ReVenture Park, which involves several clean-energy components, including solar energy, a biomass plant and potentially partnering on the proposed wastewater treatment plant needed to serve the Long Creek basin. This concept is very preliminary, and Utilities will keep Council informed if new information develops.
