On Saturday, April 25 building management for CharMeck 311's leased space has a planned nine-hour power outage to perform required maintenance on the building's uninterruptible power supply (UPS). This building maintenance will also affect the power to the data center at CharMeck 311 which houses the City's redundant server operations. To continue providing services to citizens, CharMeck 311 staff will temporarily relocate to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities' General Commerce Drive facility for the weekend.

During the last two weekends, similar maintenance impacting other areas in the leased building has been successfully completed within the scheduled nine-hour interruption. Thus, building management is confident this maintenance will be performed in a similar timeframe.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities' General Commerce Drive is an ideal relocation site due to the close proximity and similar agent station configuration and telephone equipment. Advance planning, detail design, and collaboration by CharMeck 311, Engineering & Property Management, Business Support Services (BSS) and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities should create seamless service with no interruptions for anticipated citizen calls. The TTY Line for hearing impaired will not be in service from 9 pm Friday until noon on Sunday. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Advocacy Council for People with Disabilities has been notified and will notify the N. C. Division of Services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing as well as that agency's Charlotte regional office. However, N. C. Relay Services will still be available for citizens with hearing impairments to access City services.

To ensure a smooth and seamless transition, staff will begin relocating on Friday evening to allow BSS-IT time to power-down all the servers. The UPS maintenance work will begin at 8 am on Saturday, April 25 and should be complete by 5 pm. Then BSS-IT will start powering-up the servers methodically before staff begins transitioning back to 311 on Sunday morning. By mid-day on Sunday, all CharMeck 311 operations will be back at Claude Freeman Drive. This relocation also provides a test of CharMeck 311's on-going business continuity planning.
