Neighborhood leaders have complained to City Council that vendors are operating after the 9:00 pm deadline and contribute to other secondary issues such as noise, traffic, illegal alcohol consumption and other public safety concerns. As a result, Neighborhood Development's Code Enforcement Division and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police will conduct a city-wide canvass and assessment of mobile food vendor issues.

Code Enforcement will distribute warning notices beginning this weekend and identify specific issues and locations for follow up. Beginning the week of September 15, vendors violating the City's Zoning Ordinance will be subject to fines starting at $50.00 and escalating up to $500.00. The assessment and canvass will take place from 9:00 pm to midnight with focus on the City's primary corridor areas of Albemarle Road, Central Avenue, Independence Boulevard and South Boulevard. This enforcement effort does not include the center city area which is regulated by a separate agreement and guidelines with Center City Partners. A follow-up report will be provided regarding enforcement efforts.
