Information Items:

On Tuesday, April 15, 2008, the contractor working on the I-277/Caldwell Interchange Project discovered a blasting agent, possibly left from prior construction.  This was located on the southeast corner of the intersection of I-277 and Caldwell Street.  The Fire Department, Hazardous Materials Team and CMPD were called to the site to supervise the handling of the potentially hazardous materials.  All work on the southeast corner was temporarily suspended.  South Boulevard and Morehead Street near the John Belk Freeway were closed for approximately one hour after the blasting agent was found.  The streets were reopened when officials on site determined the situation was under control.  A Charlotte Fire inspector has been assigned to monitor and support the clean up efforts.

On May 12, City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed extensions of the University City MSD and the South End MSD. As part of the required public notification process, staff mailed approximately 800 letters to property owners within the areas proposed to be added to the districts informing them of the public hearing.  Attached are copies of the letters.
