The Highland Creek Community Association has called a Town Hall Meeting for Wednesday, March 12, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., to discuss issues associated with Wallace Farm composting operations. The meeting will take place at the Highland Creek Elementary School, 7242 Highland Creek Parkway. The association is inviting elected officials and staff from the State, County and City to attend. Representatives from the State and County will be asked to speak and to answer questions from residents of Highland Creek and surrounding neighborhoods about permitting and enforcement processes. City staff from the Manager's Office, Attorney's Office and Neighborhood Development plan to attend.
We understand from Mecklenburg County Solid Waste staff that a new notice of violation was issued on February 7 to Wallace Farm as a result of odor investigations on three separate days in January. Wallace Farm has thirty days to submit a report to the County documenting actions taken to achieve compliance with the applicable State Solid Waste rules and the operational changes the facility will implement to reduce odors.
