During the Awards and Recognitions portion of the City Council's Business Meeting on Monday, February 25, we will honor City employees from four different Key Business Units who have returned from active military duty by presenting them with their Blue Stars we removed from our service flag when they returned. This is the sixth ceremony we have held since the war in Iraq began. We are delighted to be able to recognize the service of these employees, and we look forward to honoring the 25 employees still deployed upon their safe return. Family members of the Blue Star recipients were invited to attend the ceremony.
As we have done in the past, the Mayor and Council will have the opportunity to introduce individual Blue Star recipients. We will go over the logistics at the dinner meeting.
The Housing Charlotte Implementation Committee will host a mini-forum Tuesday, February 19 from 6 pm - 7:30 pm in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. The mini-forum will provide an opportunity for the 60-member Implementation Committee to share some of the key issues surrounding the following solution areas: acquisition strategy; dedicated funding source; education; outreach and advocacy; incentive-based inclusionary housing policies; and rental housing subsidy. The forum will also allow discussion from the public. Mini-forums will be held throughout the process to share information between the Implementation Committee and to keep the public informed of this community initiative.
The Housing Charlotte Implementation Committee was created as a result of the Housing Charlotte 2007 Affordable Housing Forum. The one-day event was held on February 22, 2007. Over 400 community leaders gathered to discuss affordable housing issues and recommended further study of the five solution areas mentioned above. Additional information about Housing Charlotte 2007 can be found at
