Safe Routes to School Workshop – November 9 Staff Resource: Vivian Coleman, 704-353-0481, vcoleman@ci.charlotte.nc.us Attached is an information flyer for a workshop on November 9th on Safe Routes to School. Several community groups and agencies support this program including the Mecklenburg County Health Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Carolinas Center for Injury Prevention, Safe Kids Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and the Charlotte Department of Transportation. The workshop will feature Mr. Mark Fenton, a national expert in Safe Routes to School. The workshop is at Cotswold Elementary School from 12:30- 4:00 pm on November 9th. The deadline to RSVP is this Friday October 26th.
- The reconvened Post Construction Controls Stakeholders group met on October 17 and was able to regain consensus on revised ordinance language that reduced costs of complying with the ordinance. The Committee's approval endorsed the collective recommendations of environmental interests, development interests, and staff. City Council will receive an information package on November 2nd. The adoption schedule includes a public hearing on November 12th and a proposed vote on November 26th. The ordinance effective date is planned in mid 2008.
- The Committee's recommendation on the draft Environmental Chapter of the General Development Policies includes nine specific changes to the draft document to address concerns raised during the review and adoption process. This policy document is scheduled for Council action on November 12th.

In addition to updates on City Council actions, the new City Source brings you in-depth feature stories about City government, answers important questions about City services and previews the City Council agenda. Enclosed is a DVD copy of the new format. Also note that the lead-in to the program projects a global, world-class image of our City coupled with the importance of showing connectivity to our region.
