CATS will conduct a grand opening of the South Boulevard Light Rail Facility on Saturday, June 23 at 10:00 am. The public is invited to attend and take tours of the facility from 10:00 am - Noon. Tours will be conducted that include boarding a LYNX light rail vehicle, visiting the Rail Operation Control Room, seeing where the vehicles will be maintained, learning interesting facts about the operation of the LYNX Blue Line and receiving rail safety information.
Council members received a special invitation to this event and are encouraged to attend if possible.
City Council approved 14 neighborhood improvement planning contracts with seven engineering firms at their May 14, 2007 meeting. These neighborhoods include: Sugaw Creek/Ritch Avenue, Revolution Park, York/Cama, Enderly Park, Tryon Hills, Colonial Village Sedgefield, Lincoln Heights/Wilson Heights, Nevin, Eastway/Sheffield, East Forest, Farm Pond, Autumnwood, Delta Lake and Linda Lake.
City staff and engineering firms will begin holding a series of public meetings in these neighborhoods. The purpose of the public meetings is to enhance resident's understanding of the neighborhood improvement program, get input from residents on recommended infrastructure improvements and establish project timelines. As Phase A of the Southwest Water Main's construction comes to a close this summer, Phase B is scheduled to begin fall 2007. This second part of the Southwest Water Main will start at Airport Drive and travel south to West Boulevard. It will go west along the roadway, following the proposed path for the new portion of West Boulevard, and travel south on Steele Creek Road.
The third and final phase of the Southwest Water Main will connect to existing water pipes at I-485 and continue down Steele Creek Road.
Phase B community meetings are scheduled to discuss the project's design and to answer questions from residents and property owners. One meeting on Wednesday, June 27 at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, will be for customers on or near Steele Creek Road.
Another meeting, for commercial industry, businesses and residents located from Steele Creek Road to the intersection at Shopton Road, will be held Thursday, June 28 at Jackson Park Ministries. Both meetings will begin at 6:30 pm.
The public meeting invitation mailed to customers is part of the council packet of information.
