The Charlotte Regional Business Preparedness Summit is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, 2007 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte - McKnight Hall in the Cone Center. The invitation to Council members is attached.
The Airport will be conducting two public meetings to discuss the upcoming detour of Wallace Neel Road. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, May 22 at Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church and Thursday, May 24 at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Each meeting will be from
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A brief presentation will begin at approximately 6:30 pm. Representatives from the Airport and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will review the intended detour route and schedule milestones with neighbors. Printed maps of the road changes will be available. Communication on the construction process and additional information is readily available through the Airport's newsletters, website at
www.charlotteairport.com, and other various outlets.
Gerdau Ameristeel, winner of a 2007 Mayor's International Community Award, has extended an invitation to all Council members to attend an open house on Thursday, May 24 beginning at 9:00 am. The open house will include an overview of the recycled steelmaking and rolling processes, as well as a tour of the Melt Shop and Rolling Mill. Lunch will be provided at the conclusion.
Council members may be most interested in learning about the positive environmental impact of the recycled steelmaking and rolling processes. Gerdau's Charlotte Mill opened in 1961 and is located at 6601 Lakeview Road in north Charlotte. The company currently employs 266 people in Charlotte.
