Attached is a copy of a new report to area businesses entitled BusinessWorks. This report is part of a comprehensive communication plan outlined in our business retention and growth strategy. The purpose of the BusinessWorks report is to provide regular updates on issues of relevance to the local business community and to market the business problem-solving capabilities of our office. The report will be produced on a quarterly basis, and it is currently being distributed to businesses through direct and electronic mail, business association meetings, and personal business visits made by our office staff.

Labor negotiations between CATS' contractor Transit Management of Charlotte (TMOC) and the Teamsters will continue during the week of February 19.  A tentative agreement was reached between TMOC and the Teamsters Union but members voted down the agreement over this past weekend.  However, Bus Operators have agreed to continue working under the former contract as negotiations continue.  The former contract between the two parties expired at midnight on January 31.

The City is not a party to these negotiations but remains concerned about what transpires.  We understand that talks are amicable and remain hopeful that the parties will be able to resolve any differences and work out an agreement that is fair to the employees of TMOC and protects the interests of the public both in the short and long term.

10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness
Staff Resource:

Chris Wolf, Executive Director of A Way Home, was scheduled to present an overview of the completed 10-year plan to end homelessness at the dinner meeting on February 12.  Time available that night did not allow the presentation to be made.  The action that would have been requested on February 12 was to refer the Plan to Council's Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee for review and recommendation to the City Council.  Instead of scheduling this presentation for an upcoming dinner or workshop meeting, the City Manager has referred the Plan to the Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee.
