Charlotte Fire Department Recruitment Story
Staff Resource:
       Captain Rob Brisley, 704-336-2094 -

Tuesday, Battalion Chief Larry Mackey and Captain Rob Brisley had a scheduled interview with Charlotte Observer reporter Melissa Manware at the fire academy. The topic for discussion centered around Chief Mackey's first 10 months on administrative duty in his special assignment as full-time Recruiter for the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD). The timing of this interview comes just days after our third annual "FireFighter Career Day" which was held Saturday, February 10 at Fire Station #10 and the written exam that will be offered this Saturday, February 17.

The focus of the article seems to be centered around Chief Mackey, a Charlotte native who after nearly thirty years of service to the community is now taking on a department wide role in establishing the priorities of recruiting the men and women needed for the CFD in the years ahead. This article may go to print as early as Thursday, February 15. This will be a good awareness story highlighting the importance the CFD is placing on recruiting the best people possible for a career with the Charlotte Fire Department.

Charlotte will again host the CIAA Tournament from February 26 - March 3.  During this time, CATS is enhancing several uptown services to accommodate the thousands of visitors to center city.  A CIAA Shuttle will run for the week of the tournament and connect fans to the Charlotte Convention Center, Afro-American Cultural Center, Levine Museum of the New South, ImaginOn and several hotels and restaurants.  The shuttle will operate via College, Second, McDowell and Seventh Streets from 9:00 am until 6:30 pm during the tournament.

CATS is also extending the hours of operation for the Orange, Red and South End lines of the Gold Rush Circulator Services, until midnight each night of the tournament.  In addition, CATS has developed a brochure to assist CIAA attendees who are staying at the Host hotels located outside of the Central Business District in how to ride CATS to the tournament, restaurants and shopping areas.
