2007 Neighborhood Symposium - March 31, 2007

The 12th  Annual Neighborhood Symposium is scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 2007 from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm at the Charlotte Convention Center. This year's theme is "Neighborhoods in Action: Mobilizing, Organizing and Sustaining Success."

The Neighborhood Symposium is a conference for Charlotte neighborhood leaders to learn about services and resources, participate in workshops, hear speakers and network with others who have similar interests and issues. The event is sponsored each year with lead coordination from Neighborhood Development, and support from Police, Solid Waste, Planning, Corporate Communications and several other partners and contributors.

We will be sending you a copy of the Proceedings Summary Report for the 2006 Neighborhood Symposium, held on April 22. More than 400 neighborhood leaders, youth and agency representatives were in attendance.


Legislative Agenda Follow-Up: Labeling and Listing of Industrial Equipment

As a follow-up to Monday's briefing on the Legislative Agenda, the draft report from the North Carolina Economic Developers Association describes how the current requirement for labeling and listing industrial equipment has become an impediment to economic growth in North Carolina. The intent of our request is to clarify that installed industrial machinery is not subject to regulation under the Building Code.


Land Transportation Antiterrorism Training Program

CATS is hosting the Land Transportation Antiterrorism Training Program (LTATP) conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security the week of December 11-15. This program is designed to protect the land transportation infrastructure to include rail, mass transit and bus programs. Some of the areas covered in training are:

  • System Security Planning
  • Bomb Threat Planning, Recognition and Response
  • Special Events Security Planning
  • Crisis Management
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness and Response

The LTATP addresses the needs of all personnel charged with security responsibilities. Several agencies are participating in this week-long training including CATS, CMPD, Charlotte Fire, Concord Police Department, Allied Barton Security and members of the Transportation Security Administration.
