The Fire Department has scheduled a meeting for the homeowners adjacent to the Arboretum fire station site (Fire Station 39) to discuss their concerns with the architect (ADW) before design begins. We have invited the Greenwood homeowners and the Hembstead homeowners with property adjacent to the station site. The meeting will be held Monday, October 16, 2006 at 7:15 pm in the fellowship hall at Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Lane, Charlotte, NC 28277. Staff will also hold the usual informational meeting for the greater community to comment after the design is complete.
Clean Air Works! Update
Staff Resource:
Julie Burch, 704-336-3187 - jburch@ci.charlotte.nc.us
Attached is the latest update on the Clean Air Works project, sponsored by the Regional Air Quality Board. Fifty-two business partners participated in the initiative over the summer to reduce vehicle emissions on high ozone days. Companies encouraged their employees to take the bus, carpool, or telecommute and also implemented air-friendly operating practices.
This initiative was funded by $ 500,000 in Federal Congestion Mitigation funds and $500,000 in County funds. The County Commission will be briefed next Tuesday about the preliminary results and the positive impact on emissions. We have scheduled a Council briefing at the November 6 workshop at which time final results should be complete.
On October 24, all participating businesses will be recognized and special awards will be given to leaders in the effort. In the next few days, Council members will receive a separate invitation to the luncheon which will be held at the Speedway.
