Public Input Session on Design of Proposed Cultural Facilities - Thursday, March 23
Staff Resource: Cindy Clemens, 704-336-3612 cclemens@ci.charlotte.nc.us

As a part of the planning process for the First Street Wachovia Project, a public input session has been scheduled for Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in Room 267 of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center. Four cultural facilities are included in the project - the Afro-American Cultural Center, the Mint Museum, the Bechtler Art Museum, and a 1200 seat theater. The project also includes an office tower, retail space, residential units, and the Wake Forest School of Business. The project is located on South Tryon at First Street.

Architects of the four proposed cultural facilities will be available to discuss the project and solicit community input. The public will be encouraged to participate in this forum through a variety of media including emails, the Government Channel and website.

A public hearing on the UMUD optional zoning for this project is scheduled for May 15, 2006. The UMUD zoning will address streetscape issues on Stonewall and College Streets and loading dock issues on Church Street. A separate neighborhood meeting will be held prior to the rezoning.
