Volunteers are needed Saturday, October 1, 2005 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm to help clean up Charlotte's creeks and lakes. Big Sweep is a great way for citizens, youth groups, religious organizations and businesses to fight against water pollution. Last year, approximately 1000 volunteers removed nearly 30,000 pounds of trash from local waterways.

Volunteers will be given trash bags, gloves, snacks, water and instructions when they report to any of the 11 Big Sweep locations.

North Tryon Corridor Meeting - Uptown Men's Shelter

In response to concerns expressed by business owners along the North Tryon Street Corridor, a meeting with City staff is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at 9:00 am at the Villages of Hope Haven, 3815 North Tryon Street. The purpose of the meeting is to listen to the business owners concerns about the Uptown Men's Shelter and other issues along the corridor.

Representatives from the City's Neighborhood Development, Engineering and Property Management, Police, Economic Development, and Transportation departments have been invited to attend the meeting. We will advise Council of the outcome of this meeting.
