City Wins 3CMA Awards at Recent National Conference
Staff Resource: Julie Hill, 704-336-4098

At the City/County Communications and Marketing Association's (3CMA) National Conference last week, the City received four awards for work produced by Corporate Communications in conjunction with Solid Waste Services and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department:

   - Award of Excellence for "Lessons for Our Tomorrows" video.
Karl Kakadelis speaks to a group of teenager's about his experience with drinking and driving and losing his best friend. Judges' Comments: Sometimes simple is best. I couldn't stop watching! Compelling testimony on a heartbreaking subject. I couldn't turn away!

   - Silver Circle Award for Women in Policing Video, to support CMPD's efforts to recruit women
Judges' Comments: Well planned project. It obviously took a lot of coordination with your police department. The written material clearly defines the project and its outcomes. The audience and goals were very well defined. The video was very compelling.

   - Silver Circle for "Meta un g-o-o-o-L reciclando" recycling campaign designed to educate and increase recycling in Charlotte's Latino community
Judges' Comments: This targeted recycling program offers some of the most dynamic educational materials we've seen, designed in-house by the Charlotte Corporate Communications and Solid Waste Services team. Initial results demonstrate that if Charlotte sticks with the campaign, their goal is within reach.

   - Silver Circle for Women in Policing Communication Plan to support CMPD's Career Fair
Judges' Comments: Excellent job of laying out the problem, developing goals, adopting a budget and identifying the target audiences to attract more women police officers.
