On October 14, 2004, the City will begin the process Council approved to review its current Economic Development Strategic Plan. The purpose of this review will be to determine the strategic actions needed to sustain the City's successful growth in an environment of shifting economies and new challenges facing American cities. The draft results and recommendations will be presented to City Council at your retreat in February 2005. The City's economic development strategy is also tentatively scheduled to be the topic for Council's Policy Workshop on December 6, 2004.
You are invited to participate in this discussion by attending a panel discussion on Thursday, October 14, 2004, from 7:30 to 9:00 am, at the Westin Hotel (Grand Ballroom C). Mayor McCrory will facilitate the discussion with the panel on their respective subjects as follows:
- Dr. John Silvia, Chief Economist, Wachovia Bank-"Dynamics of Charlotte's Economy"
- Jeff Finkle, President, International Economic Development Council-"Economic Development Challenges and Opportunities in American Cities"
