North Corridor at Grade Crossing Study
Staff Resource: Ron Tober, 704-336-7245
In 2000, in anticipation of new North Corridor Commuter Rail service, CATS and NCDOT hired Gannett Fleming to recommend improvements to the 109 at-grade crossings along the "O" line between Charlotte and Mooresville. The recommendations were presented to the Metropolitan Transit Commission on November 14, 2001 and approved by the Mecklenburg-Union
Metropolitan Planning Organization on May 21, 2003. The Cornelius and Davison Town Boards of Commissioners have approved the recommendations. Action by Mooresville and Huntersville is expected in the next two months.
The City Manager is referring this recommendation to the Transportation Committee for review and for recommendation to Council.
Greater Enrichment Program - Summer Program Audit
Staff Resource: Stanley Watkins, 704-336-3796
Neighborhood Development's Compliance Monitoring Division completed an audit of the Greater Enrichment Program (GEP) FY04 summer program during the month of May 2004. The summer program was found to have an average enrollment of 441 students, which represents 88% of the required contract enrollment of 500. While this number does not meet the contract requirement, this is more acceptable than the Fall Program enrollment of 288 students (58%) that was shared with Council earlier.
The summer program audit information has been shared with officials of the Greater Enrichment Program. GEP has been asked to contact the Neighborhood Development staff to discuss the audit results in greater detail and to work toward establishing contract goals for FY05.
We are awaiting an official request from GEP for their FY05 contract. We have asked that they submit a proposal for enrollment no later than June 4, 2004. This will permit us to have a contract for Council consideration by June 28, 2004.
