Council Manager Memo #37 - May 26, 2004
Information Items:
CATS Service Adjustments Effective June 7, 2004
Staff Resource: Keith Parker, 704-336-3855

On Monday, June 7, 2004, the Charlotte Area Transit System will adjust service on several bus routes. Gold Rush service will be adjusted to provide greater mobility in Uptown. The Gold Rush Red Line will operate from Gateway via Trade to McDowell, and return via Fourth to College and back via Trade to Gateway. The Gold Rush Blue Line will be extended to Seventh Street, providing service to the Afro American Cultural Center. The Gold Rush Orange Line will not be adjusted.

Three new routes will begin operation on June 7:

#222 Pence Road will provide neighborhood shuttle service in the East Charlotte area. The new route will connect to main line service at Eastland Mall and provide service to the housing complexes on Pence Road, to the Wal-Mart on Harrisburg Road, and to the new Target Store on Albemarle. The route alignment was developed with input from residents of East Charlotte.

#88X Lincoln County Express will operate in partnership with Lincoln County Government. Service will start near Highway 16 and Highway 73 in Lincoln County, and will operate into Uptown Charlotte with stops in Mecklenburg County along the way. #25 Clanton Park will operate in an area of West Charlotte where route #10 West Boulevard currently operates. The new route will operate from Uptown via West Boulevard and Barringer to the neighborhoods in the vicinity of Clanton Road. Route #10 West Boulevard will thus be streamlined and service improved along the West Boulevard corridor.

#249 UNCC/JW Clay, a route that began operating in February 2004, will be adjusted slightly to provide direct service onto the campus of UNCC. Two other routes will be extended. #16 South Tryon will be extended further along South Tryon to Tyvola, and #54X University Research Park Express will be extended to the business complexes near David Taylor and Mallard Creek Church Road. In addition, the number of #40X Albemarle Express trips that operate along Pence Road will be increased.

A total of fifteen additional bus routes will experience minor schedule or routing adjustments designed to improve service.
