Multi-Family Collection Service

Staff Resource Wayman Pearson, 704-336-3410

Since 1996, Solid Waste Services has provided multi-family dumpster garbage collection to developments with thirty (30) or more units through a contract with Container Corporation of Carolina (CCC). Approximately 85,000 units are now serviced under this contract.

Recent efforts to improve productivity and reduce both operating expenses and labor costs have prompted staff to begin a review of collection practices at multi-family units that utilize rollout cart collection by City crews.

Site assessments have begun with the south collection zone to determine whether suitable on-site locations exist to support dumpster service through the City’s multi-family CCC collection contract. After each zone assessment is complete, staff will review the data and make a final determination of service.

Staff will meet with individual property managers and association representatives of any development that is recommended for conversion to dumpster service to answer their questions and coordinate service transition.

While recognizing that all multi-family sites will not meet the criteria for dumpster collection, Solid Waste Services will continue to make service adjustments as needed to reduce overall costs, improve productivity and provide collection services in the most cost-efficient manner.
