What's Your Neighborhood Ranking?

The City of Charlotte has released its 2006 Neighborhood Quality of Life Study.  The Study is conducted every two years and measures the quality of life in all of Charlotte's neighborhoods.

USO Opens At Airport

Attention all active duty military, National Guard personnel, reservists, retirees and dependents ... Charlotte Douglas International Airport now has a place just for you.

The United Service Organization of North Carolina (USO) opened an USO center at the airport on Friday, September 1.  At nearly 2,350 square feet, the center offers a relaxing "home away from home" atmosphere, along with free food and beverage service and a cyber café with free internet service, electronic gaming stations and a family area.

Strengthen Your Neighborhood

The City's Neighborhood Development department offers leadership and capacity building training to neighborhoods through various initiatives, including Community University.

Community University is a training program with classes and course topics designed to increase the knowledge and skills of neighborhood organizations. Interested persons are encouraged to enroll in one or more of the upcoming classes, scheduled for:

September 19, 26, 28 and October 3, 10 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm
September 23 from 9:30 - 11:30 am

Get Involved

Looking for an opportunity to get involved in local government?  Apply for a position on one of the City's Boards and Commissions

On Monday, October 9, City Council will make nominations to fill vacancies or make reappointments on various boards and committees.

Applications may be obtained online or by calling Jeanne Peek at 704-336-2248.  All applications must be signed and returned to the City Clerk's Office by Monday, October 2 at 5 pm.


Clean Streams, Green Lawns

Do you find fertilizer and pesticide packages confusing?  How do you know how much fertilizer is enough?  Join Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and North Carolina Cooperative Extension for a workshop about lawn care in Charlotte.

Attendees will learn valuable tools including when to do routine lawn maintenance and how to trouble-shoot yard problems.  Information also will be provided on protecting water quality while maintaining the health and appearance of lawns.

This fall, experience a sleeker new look when Charlotte installs Parking Pay Stations on select Center City streets. In addition to a slimming new design, these pay stations are also versatile and functional – with fewer wardrobe malfunctions.
