City Council Meetings 'On Demand'
There's something new in store for those wanting to view media content on charmeck.org.  The City now offers live streaming video of City Council meetings on the web, allowing the public to view meetings at their convenience.
 
With streaming video capabilities, the electronic versions of the City Council agendas and minutes available on the website are supplemented with the ability to view the meetings live or call up specific agenda items from archived meetings.
 
To access streaming video, visit www.charmeck.org and select "View City Council Meetings."
 
Take CATS to the Race

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will operate the LMS Race Express, which includes 20 buses to provide round-trip transportation to the Bank of America 500 on Saturday, October 14.  The express service will travel from the CATS Park and Ride location at Carolina Place Mall, located south of Charlotte in Pineville, N.C to Lowes Motor Speedway.  Tickets for the LMS Race Express are $20 per person and are available in advance by calling 1-800-455-FANS or online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com.  Tickets also will be available for purchase on a first-come, first served basis at the Park and Ride lot on race day.

Fire Prevention Week 2006
The most effective way to prevent the tragedy of fires and other injuries is to educate the public on their causes and to introduce ways to deal with these emergencies.  The Charlotte Fire Department believes prevention through education is the key to reducing fires and injuries to the citizens of Charlotte.
 
During Fire Prevention Week 2006, October 8-14, the CFD has scheduled a calendar of events to keep you and your family and property safe from the dangers of fire.  See the list of tips and activities.
 
 
Clean Steams, Green Lawns

Do you find fertilizer and pesticide packages confusing?  How do you know how much fertilizer is enough?  Join Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and North Carolina Cooperative Extension for its last workshop of the season on October 16 about lawn care in Charlotte.

Attendees will learn valuable tools including when to do routine lawn maintenance and how to trouble-shoot yard problems.  Information also will be provided on protecting water quality while maintaining the health and appearance of lawns.

Education Campaign Gains National Attention

The National Association of Flood & Stormwater Management Agencies (NAFSMA) awarded its President's Award for exceptional performance in communications to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services.

Storm Water Services' public information campaign focuses on both water pollution and flood safety issues. The award recognizes Storm Water Services' "Keep it Clear, Don't Dump Here" advertising campaign, the new Storm Water Services web site, educational inserts in monthly water bills, weekly TV news stories about flooding and water quality issues, and brochures mailed to people who own property in floodplains.
