Let's Talk Solid Waste Services

Looking for a creative way to learn about Solid Waste Services?  The City’s Solid Waste Services department offers on-site presentations for schools, neighborhoods and community organizations on a variety of topics such as:

  • Getting your garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulky items collected
  • What to put in your recycle bin
  • How to keep your neighborhood clean

The presentations are fun, engaging and informational. Presentations also can be customized for your group, and many are available in Spanish.

Scholarships For Burn Survivors, Fire/Burn Education
The Charlotte Chapter of the NC Firefighters' Burned Children Fund Inc. announces two categories of educational scholarships to area burn survivors and students intending on working with burn recovery. 
 
Burn Survivors - Charlotte FFBCF will award up to three scholarship funds - in amounts up to $3,000 per school year for undergraduate education, continuing education or personal educational enrichment (college or trade courses) for burn survivors.
 
Fire/Burn Recovery Assistance - Charlotte FFBCF will award one scholarship fund up to $1,000 per school year for undergraduate education related to the study of fire/burn recovery from an accredited college or university.  Continuing education units will be considered.  (examples:  nursing, medical, healthcare, therapy, counseling).  For complete application requirements and details, visit www.ffbcf.org.
 
 
Make Your Community Safer
October is Crime Prevention Month.  Learn how you can take an active role in making your community safer.  Join the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at one of several safety fairs being held across the city on Tuesday, October 23.   See fair locations and times.

Airport Hosts Runway 5K Run/Walk

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport will host a Runway 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, November 10.  The event begins at 8 am with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Central Carolinas.
