Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus operators took top honors in the State Bus Roadeo Competition in Wilmington, NC. CATS' Bus Operation Division (BOD) also was named the "Best Overall System" in the state for the fourth year in a row.
Paul Williams, who's been driving for BOD for 29 years, took first place in the 35-foot bus competition. Lawrence Martin, a 12-year BOD bus operator, placed second.
The "Roadeo" gave bus operators the chance to test their driving and safety skills. Drivers had to navigate the bus through an obstacle course in a safe and timely manner. They also were judged on their professional appearance, pre-trip inspection and a written safety test.
