Right On Track

Construction of the City's first light rail line and associated infrastructure is in full swing throughout the South Corridor - from 7th Street to I-485.  More  than 700 workers are involved in building the LYNX Blue Line and the 29 infrastructure projects along South Boulevard.

To date, about half of the road, sidewalk, water main and other infrastructure projects that began within the last year are complete and significant progress has been made on the light rail bridges, roadbed and track.

The LYNX Blue Line is schedule to open in the fall of 2007.  To view the latest progress report on construction activity, visit www.charlottefuture.com

Airport Parking In High Demand

Is it taking you a little longer to find a place to park at Charlotte Douglas International Airport?  Record-breaking passenger loads are increasing demand for airport parking.  The airport expects its nearly 20,000 public parking spaces to be full during peak travel days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and through the periods of the Fourth of July and Labor Day.  So, if you have to park at the airport, the following tips will help:

  • Allow plenty of time for parking.
  • Be aware of the peak travel days.  On these days, you may be directed to another lot if your first preference is unavailable.
  • Use the Daily, Remote and Long-Term parking areas. The Hourly Deck is intended for those picking up and dropping off passengers.
  • Use the free cell phone lot on Rental Car Road when picking up passengers.

For more information, including parking maps and rates, visit www.charlotteairport.com.

Help Prevent Storm Water Pollution

Now's the time when everyone is outside working in the garden, playing in the park, doing outdoor chores. Sometimes these activities can contribute to storm water pollution without people even knowing it.  The next time you're outside, remember these tips:

  • When walking your dog, pick up after them.  Animal waste contains bacteria that gets into creeks and lakes when it rains.
  • When washing your car, temporarily park it on the lawn so the dirty water can filter into the soil and not flow into the nearby storm drain.
  • Bag yard waste and put it at the curb for pickup. Never allow yard waste to get into the storm drain or creek.

For more information on preventing storm water pollution, visit http://stormwater.charmeck.org and click on Pollution Prevention.
