Guzzle Savings, Not Gasoline

Want to to reduce your dependency on fuel, help keep the air clean and put money back into your pockets?  The Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) offers tips on how to save money while breathing a little easier:

  • Use public transit
  • Walk or bike
  • Shop online
  • Avoid driving at high speeds
  • Minimize heavy loads
  • Avoid parking in direct sunlight
  • Refuel after dark

For more tips, visit CDOT's website.

Look, Listen And Live

Now that Charlotte's first light rail vehicle has arrived, crews are busily preparing to put the car on the tracks.  Testing along the LYNX Blue Line will begin this month from Clanton Road to Tremont Road.  Each of the 16 light rail vehicles arriving in Charlotte must have 1,000 miles of testing before being put into revenue service.  This means light rail vehicles will be going up and down the tracks during the morning, afternoon, evening and overnight.

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will put up billboards around Charlotte and send direct mail to citizens and businesses near the rail line notifying the community that portions of the LYNX Blue Line will soon be active.  Signalized rail crossing gates will be in place at intersections along the test section of the light rail track.  Trained officers also will assist with vehicle and pedestrian traffic as needed.

Safety is everyone's responsibility and CATS' top priority.  Always Look, Listen and Live when near railroad tracks.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's online Traffic Accident Information System provides "real time" information for vehicle crashes and traffic related obstructions on area roads.

The online information is updated every three minutes to help drivers avoid heavy traffic areas.  To access the system, visit http://maps.cmpdweb.org/trafficaccidents.
