12th Annual Twilight 5K Road Race & Walk

Come out Friday, May 9 to the 12th Annual Twilight 5K Road Race & Walk to benefit the Right Moves for Youth club. The club provides local students the encouragement, support and resources necessary to be successful students while fostering a sense of belonging and peer support.

The course runs through uptown Charlotte, and is one of the only evening races in town. Individuals, teams and families are invited to participate. The race begins at 7 p.m. followed by a Free Fun Run for children beginning at 8 p.m.

2008 Bike! Charlotte

Whether you are pedaling to better health, to save money, for cleaner air, losing weight or to have fun—it's time to "Set Your Life in Motion" during the eighth annual BIKE! Charlotte event.

The Charlotte Department of Transportation, CATS and Charlotte Sports Cycling are hosting one of the healthiest events in town. 2008 BIKE! Charlotte events start Thursday, May 1 and run through Sunday, May 11. The event agenda includes bicycle-related activities and promotions to encourage families, friends and colleagues to break out the bike and integrate it into their daily routine.

The 10-day event begins with the Mayor's Ride/Bike to Breakfast in Uptown Charlotte. For more detailed information on the week of events visit www.bike-charlotte.org.

CMPD's High School Academy

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is looking for a few good teens...to participate in a one-week, hands-on course for young people interested in a career in law enforcement or students who would like to find out more about the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The next Academy will be held:

Monday, July 7 – Friday, July 11
8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The application deadline is Monday, May 19.

Vacation Safety Tips

With summer around the corner people are thinking of vacationing. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department wants to remind vacationers to take proper safety precautions to help you enjoy a safe vacation:

  • Always stay with people you trust.
  • Carry a cell phone in case of an emergency.
  • Call home periodically to let family members know you are safe.
  • Keep your identification with you.
  • Always keep your hotel room locked.
  • Leave valuables at home, but lock the valuables you do take in the hotel safe.
  • Beware of scam artists or pick pockets.
