Crime Reporting Unit Links With 311

Callers to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Crime Reporting Unit (CRU) now are directly connected to staff at CharMeck 311, the City/County 24/7 customer service line.

The CRU is designed to take non-emergency police service calls and reports.  Now, callers speak with a 311 representative, who determines whether a police report is required.  Based on that determination, the call then is transferred to the CRU, where the citizen can speak with an Investigative Technician.

Citizens also can file a police report online.
