Charlotte's Former City Manager

Charlotte's former City Manager is Pamela A. Syfert.  She was appointed to the position in 1996 and retired June 30, 2007.

Prior to her appointment, Syfert served as an Assistant City Manager from 1987 until 1990 and as the Deputy City Manager of Charlotte from 1990 until her appointment as Manager.

Syfert continues to be a member of the International City/County Management Association.  She is also a member of the North Carolina City and County Managers Association and the American Society of Public Administration as well as other professional groups. 

In 1999, Syfert was named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine. In 2000, she was elected to the National Academy of Public Administration.

Syfert holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell College and has a master's degree in political science from Michigan State University.  She completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University and the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia.

Syfert is a member of the Board of Visitors of the McColl School of Business at Queens University and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
